Benefits of Meditation




Introduction:

Meditation means to think deeply and deliberately about a specific question. Meditation is a form of rich philosophical tradition. It refers to the practices typically designed to modify the everyday states of consciousness through disengaging from the thinking process, going beyond normal discursive thinking.



Today, number of meditation practices have been updated to the western lifestyle and are practiced for religious or spiritual development or to obtain an healthy lifestyle. Meditation technique have being derived from religious context and incorporated into a wide range of successful programs designed to address specific needs.

Researchers are studying the physiological and psychological effects of a variety of meditation practices and they are discovering significant beneficial results.

1.      Meditation improves focus, Attention, and ability to work under stress

      The studies suggests that after meditation training, It is  shown that meditation helps to keep focus, especially on repetitive and boring tasks. It is observed that after 20 minutes a day of practice, most of them were able to improve their performance and cognitive skill.


2.      Meditation reduces risk of heart diseases and stroke

       Nowadays many people die of heart disease then other illness. In a study published in late  2012, a group of over 200 high risk individuals was asked either to take a health education class having better diet and exercise or to take a meditation class. After 5 years the participants who took meditation has reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke and by 48%.


3.    Meditation reduces blood pressure

       Research has shown that practice of Zen meditation reduces stress and high blood pressure. It is shown that with 2/3 of high blood pressure patients showing significant drops in blood pressure after 3 months of meditation. This is because relaxation results in the formation of nitric oxide, which opens up blood vessels.


4.   Meditation helps to allocate limited brain resources

       In the experiment conducted by the university of California,  a stream of random letters were shown in a computer screen, in rapid succession. In each session, one or two numbers or blank screen would appear in the middle, and the participants were asked immediately after the stream ended to type the numbers they saw. They were also asked whether they thought a blank screen or not.  After 3 months of intense Vipassana meditation were found to have good control over the distribution of attention and perception resources.


5.   Meditation may make you live Longer

          It is noticed that some forms of meditation have salutary effects on telomere.                           Telomeres are the important part of human cells that effect our cells age. It is Identified           that it reduces the telomere length by reducing cognitive stress arousal and increasing             positive states of mind and hormonal factors that may promote telomere maintenance.

      If you have heavy duties in the early hour or you cannot meditate in the morning try to give an hour at night, and you should try to meditate, You may meditate while engaged upon it. In Life there is a time to think, and the busiest, the most laborious is not shut out from aspiration.
